Chosen by G-d

In Navi so far, we have learned many things. One of the main ideas we covered is why a prophet was needed and what characteristics a person needs to be chosen by Hashem. We read a paragraph from the Halachot Yesudai HaTorah that spoke about what characteristics a person had to have to become a Navi. A person had to be very wise and understanding as well as being completely in control of himself and his emotions. A prophecy was used as a way for Hashem to communicate with the nations in order to inform them of what they needed to do or what they were doing wrong as well as warn them about specific things. The Navi himself (or herself) was also able to receive a Nevuah meant only for them.

In my opinion, it was very important that the people had a prophet that was able to give them messages and instructions from Hashem. I think this would help the people build a stronger connection with G-d and better themselves as individuals. It is also important that the prophet was chosen by Hashem and had specific character traits. If a person who was not wise, in control, or understanding became a Navi, I imagine the people would be less likely to listen to the messenger, much less follow his orders.

  1. I agree. I think it is absolutely important to make sure you have the right person as a Navi. You can't pick just anyone for such an important job. The people needed to respect the Navi to be able to listen to anything he/she said, so choosing a the right person was very important.
