Throughout Perek 1 it talks about many sins the Jews did. One of them was that the Jews were cheating in business. In the passuk where is talks about this, it uses a metaphor that says כספכ היה לסיגים (silver has impurities) and סבאכ מהול במים (wine is diluted with water. Although these things sound so weird, they actually did this. This is how they cheated in business. The Jews would put tin inside the silver to make it seem heavier, which means it would cost more. And when it says the Jews diluted the wine, they actually added water to the wine so they would sell less for the price of a regular bottle. These were just some of the sins the Jews did that made G-d angry.
Out of all the sins the Jews did, I feel that this one was the worst. Only because I would feel bad after the fact if I ever did this. Today, we still do this but in different ways. Some people take others money, not by just running up and taking it, but through scams/scandals. I just don't understand how people could do things like this.

ReplyDeleteI also agree. Also if you think about how you would feel if you realized someone just cheat you like that, you wouldn't feel so great. Another example that we don't often recognize is when the seller puts their merchandise up for sale for way more than what it is worth. We don't think about this so much, but it happens all the time. Or we think that we are buying a real diamond earring, but really it's just a crystal.
